Couture Creations | Cést la Vie | I Love The Little Things You Do Layout

Hi Everyone, and welcome to my post today which features a scrapbooking layout I have created with the beautiful new Cést la Vie collection of papers, embellishments and chipboard.

I started my layout by cutting, inking and distressing 2″ squares from the Cést la Vie papers, most of which were scraps and leftovers from other projects.  You will need 24 squares in total, however you could leave off the ones hidden by the photograph and embellishments.  I found that faint pencil lines dividing the layout in half horizontally and vertically helped to layout out the patchwork design neatly.

I have inked the white doily so that it didn’t clash with the soft creamy tones of the papers.  I also foiled the chipboard ferns and title with Matte Gold so that they too complimented the papers better.  As I create the elements for my layout I like to embellishment them (ie ink and/or distress), add tape to the backs and then place them (not stick them) where I think they will go – which may or may not change before I do any sticking.

The pink frame is from a page in the 6″x6″ Cést la Vie paper pad, which also had some of the flowers I fussy-cut printed in the centre.  The rest of the fussy-cut flowers and butterflies came from a variety of the Cést la Vie papers from both the 6″x6″ and 12″x12″ paper pads.

Well I guess that is it for me today, except to share some close-up pictures of may layout and a list of the products I have used.

Couture Creations | Mixed Media Canvas

Hi Everyone, and welcome to my post today which is a Mixed Media Canvas I have created using a photograph from our Wedding over 22 years ago.  With Valentines Day just around the corner I thought this was a good project to share, and it makes a lovely gift for that special someone.

I have used the Anna Griffin Pigment Powder (purple), White Acrylic Gesso, Gloss Texture Paste and Matte Texture Paste as the main focus of my techniques.  I also have a video in this post sharing my creative process – sped up and shortened as much as possible so as not to take up too much of your creative time.

I have used my Go, Press & Foil to colour the chipboard pieces, and then grunged them up with 3D Liquid Pearls, Glitzin Glamour and White Acrylic Gesso (with and without the Purple Pigment Powder).  I have used the same products on the flowers, photograph, canvas (edges) and die-cut leaves/swirls for a bit of grunge elegance too.

I used the Matte Texture Paste as an adhesive with a brush to attach the doilies on the background and with a palette knife in a trowel fashion to adhere all of the dimensional elements to the finished canvas.

The metal Butterfly has been coated with Embossing Powder after heating it until it was very hot, and then sprinkled with white glitter once the Embossing Powder was melted.

I have mixed the Pigment Powder (purple) with the White Acrylic Gesso to colour the background with several layers, the last of which I didn’t mix thoroughly so that I could get some movement and shading into the background.  I have also used the Pigment Powder (purple) to colour the Gloss Texture Paste that I applied with a palette knife through the stencil for the main background focal point.

I added a touch of water to the White Acrylic Gesso left on the palette and then flicked it over the background before adding the embellishments.  I accidentally deleted this part of the video during the editing process and didn’t realise until it was too late.

Please let me know if you have any questions about my Mixed Media Canvas or my creative process, and I hope you enjoy my video.

Cardmaking Class @ Scrapbook Fantasies | Watercolour Cockatoo Card

Welcome to the reveal of the Cardmaking Class I will be teaching at my store (Scrapbook Fantasies) this week, which happens to be the Watercolour Cockatoo Card that I created especially for the Couture Creations Blog on Australia Day.  I have had many people ask me how I created this card and thought it would be a good idea to have a class dedicated to how I have created this little chap – especially the Watercolour techniques I use.  The class is on Tuesday 6 February at 10am – and costs just $17 which includes all materials and use of the my tools and mediums. Please bring along basic tools and adhesives, and if you have them a trimmer, sponge daubers, fussy cutting scissors (fine and sharp), foam tape, blue edging inkpad, dimensional magic/glossy accents and a score-pal.

Happy Creating and have a wonderful day

Couture Creations | C’est la Vie | Storage Solutions

Hi Everyone, and welcome to my post today which includes some storage solutions that will help to keep your favourite Couture Creations product collections neat and accessible.  I am sharing my C’est la Vie storage which I have embellished to match the collections beautiful tones, delicate cutting dies and botanical theme.

I love the versatility of the Couture Creations Stackable Storage Boxes, and the fact that they are 12″x13″ is even better because the papers with an information strip fit perfectly with a little wiggle room.  They are also deep enough to carry a considerable quantity and variety of product and unfinished projects.

To store small embellishments, ephemera and diecuts – including those I have made myself with a collection – I use the good old take-out container.  These handy little containers fit inside the Stackable Storage Boxes, even with a whole lot of papers, embossing folders, stamps, chipboard and other bits and pieces.  The other key item to my collection storage system is empty DVD Cases in which I keep the matching cutting dies.  *I add tiny strip of double sided tape for excessively small cutting die pieces – like the flowers in the Rosy Frame Tag Cutting Die Set from the Cést la Vie collection*

The best part of this storage system is that I can just pop the DVD Case and take-out container into the relevant Stackable Storage Box and off I go to a crop with everything I need to create coordinationg projects including papers, stamps, embossing folders, cutting dies, embellishments, scraps and chipboard.

I do keep coordinating chipboard in a separate clip-seal bag inside the Stackable Storage Box as it tends to be super delicate and can sometimes mark other items – like the last sheet of a favourite paper.

It is all well and good to be storing products together, but the real secret to my system is the creative/decorative aspect.  I like to use the products from the collection to help identify the collection – including the lovely labels on the packaging.  Printed designs on packaging are really sturdy, making them perfect for the base of the design blocks I put on the take-out containers and Stackable Storage Boxes.

Well that is it for me today, except to share the list of supplies I have used to embellish my Cést La Vie Storage – the most important item being the Embossing, Foil & Glitter tape which is the only thing that will stick to the plastic containers in the long-term.

Products I have used:

CO721952 Stackable Storage Box (12″x13″)
CO721964 Foam Mounting Tape – 12mm x 4m

Couture Creations | Australia Day 2018 | Cockatoo Watercolour Card

Hi Everyone, and welcome to my post today which is part of the Australia Day Group post over on the Couture Creations Blog.

To create my Aussie Cockatoo Card I have Die-cut the Cockatoo In The Wild die from watercolour paper and then patched from behind the areas I wanted to have solid in my finished design.  I have also traced and hand-cut a matching oval shape from watercolour paper to use as a simple blue toned background.  I then used Watercolour Pencils, a small brush and water to colour the image in a variety of tones for each colour.

I added some glittery details to the tips of the Gum Blossoms in the design with Aztec Gold Glitzin Glamour Glitter Glue.  I have used a card from the A6 Kraft Card and Envelope Set as my base, along with an additional card base from the pack that I have cut down and embossed with the C’est La Vie Tied Lines Embossing Folder as my background.  I matted this embossed Kraft piece on Deep Blue Glitter Paper, which I also used to Die-cut the numbers with the Adorning Numbers Die set.

Products I have used:

CO721964 Foam Mounting Tape – 12mm x 4m
CO721985 Double Sided Tape – 6mm x 50m
CO724824 Go Cut & Emboss Machine
CO724849 Card & Envelope Set – A6 Kraft (50pcs each)
ULT157476 Australiana Cockatoo In The Wild Cutting Die
CO721981 Glitzin Glamour Glitter Glue – Aztec Gold
CO725769 Cést la Vie Tied Lines Embossong Folder
CO725342 Glitter Paper (210gsm) – Deep Blue
CO724649 Alpha-Numberic Adorning Numbers Cutting Die Set (10pcs)
CO725849 Sponge Dauber Storage Case (40pcs)

Couture Creations | C’est La Vie | Quick Cards

Hi Everyone, and welcome to my post today which features a pair of simple and economical cards created with the Cést La Vie collection being released by Couture Creations later this month.

I have used A6 Kraft card bases from one of the popular Card & Envelope Sets produced by Couture Creations.  I love using these bases and envelopes as they are less than 40 cents per set, meaning that if I butcher a card base to create embellishments it is cheaper than cardstock – and I can always use the spare envelopes anyway.

The patterned papers are from the 6″x6″ and 12″x12″ Cést La Vie paper pads, including the butterfly and “Life is Beautiful” tabs.  You could just use the 6″x6″ paper pad, however I liked the spots being all the same colour so used the larger sheet of this paper.  The tag is from the Cést La Vie Diecut Ephemera pack and the tiny chipboard Bees are from the A Hive of Bees Chipboard set, which includes 20 pieces/Bees.

One of my favourite items from the C’est La Vie collection is the Butterflies & Roses Stamp and 3D Emboss A2 set.  As this is a 3D Embossing Folder you have to be very careful when using it with your Go Press & Foil Machine, as I have because it is of a higher quality with a deeper design – so no packing is needed and you may need to remove the lid to replace it with a B plate if it still too tight.

I have distressed the edges of all of my pieces of patterned paper and ephemera before inking them with coordinating inks and sponge daubers.  Keeping sponge daubers in a sealed case and having one for each colour prevents contamination and helps them to last a lot longer.

Like the foiled 3D Embossing Folder design I have foiled the Thank You sentiment onto my butchered spare card base.  The Kraft is beautiful and smooth so it takes the foiling perfectly on both sides, as do all of the card bases in the Card & Envelope Sets range.

Well I guess that is it for me today, except to share some pictures of the individual cards and a list of the products I have used.
