Another Show and a Card

By Alicia.R. | May 19, 2012

I have to say a huge thank you to Sue and the Committee at the Callide Valley Show (Biloela) for inviting me to be the Judge of their Scrapbooking Section on Thursday.  I had a wonderful time as I know Candy did too (she came along for the drive).  The road to Biloela is soooo much better than the Bruce Highway is to Brisbane.  The quality of the work I had to judge was awesome once again, especially in the childrens classes.  Some of the child entrants were exceedingly talented.

I also have to share my card created with my Card Sketch for this month (here).  I have kept my card very simple with tones of teal, brown and cream.

Supplies used:
Patterned papers, rhinestone swirl, flowers, pearls, lace, corner rubon, stamp - Kaiser
Cardstock – Bazzill (French Vanilla)
Rubon words – Basic Grey
Ink – Versacolor (Pinecone), Versafine (Vintage Sepia)

Belated Happy Mothers Day

By Alicia.R. | May 15, 2012

I would like to wish all of the Mum’s, Grandma’s and Honorary Mum/Grandma’s a Happy Mothers Day for Sunday.  I actually spent my Mothers Day going to Gympie to Judge the Scrapbooking/Cardmaking section of the upcoming show.

So I actually spent most of the day in the car with my family, who then left me at the Showgrounds whilst they hit the markets and playgrounds.  Apparently Gympie has the best playgrounds they have seen or played on.  The kids tried to convince Quentin that they needed to buy some Ducklings at the Country Markets too.

I had a wonderful time with Lisa and the girls, and the lunch provided by the Show Society was lovely.  I feel so honoured to have been invited to do the judging, and especially once I saw the quality of the entries.  I am pleased to say that the quality of the entries was both diverse and outstanding.  Many of the nineteen classes were hard to pick winners for and the Grand Champion choice was even harder.  I would like to thank Lisa and the Scrapbooking Committee for making my day so wonderful and for inviting me to be their 2012 Judge.

This is a pic of Lisa (who owns Craft With Attitude, Gympie), the girls from the Gympie Show Scrapbooking Committee and myself.

CSI (Color, Stories, Inspiration) Case File #18

By Alicia.R. | May 10, 2012

I found this cool challenge today at CSI (Color, Stories, Inspiration) whilst finalising some details for a special project.  Anyway the challenge is to use the Case File details (below) and some simple instructions to create a layout within a week and a weekend.  You have to use all five colours, at least two pieces of evidence and at least one testimony item.

I have used all five colours (the light grey is the silver bling, silver letters and the lightest grey journaling pen I could find) in the scheme.  From the Evidence list I have used Websters Pages Bloomers, flowers, an oversized flower (well for me anyway) and bling.  The Testimony I included was to journal about the growth of Quentin’s love for his Grandma, to include a bit more journaling than I may have ordinarily on this page, and to use the inspiration words of extreme and growth (actually growing) in my journaling.

This is my layout:

The journaling reads:  “Quentin calls his Grandma, Mar Heidke.  He loves her so very much, and that love is always growing stronger as time goes by.  It may sound extreme for a 38 year old man to love his Grandma so much, but thats LOVE.”

Supplies used:
Cardstock – Bazzill (white), Coredinations Vintage (orange)
Patterned paper – Prima (Almanac)
Textured cardstock – Core’dinations
Flowers – Prima (orange), Websters Pages (green Bloomers)
Netting – Websters Pages
Bling – Zva Creative (orange swirls), Kaiser (silver strips)
Lace – Birch Australia
Pen – American Crafts Memory Marker (grey)
Lettering – American Crafts Thickers
Template – Crafters Workshop
Texture Paste – Jo Sonja
Ink – Versacolor (pinecone), Tim Holtz Distress Ink (spiced marmalade)
Mist – Glimmermist (perfect peach, peach delight)
Printed chipboard – Basic Grey

Quick Gift Idea

By Alicia.R. | May 10, 2012

I thought I would share the finished altered notebooks I created for the Mothers Day Stall at School today.  I actually made 24 of them this time, and individually they are very quick and easy to create.  I added the flower to the cover with a brad, then used co-ordinating cardstock to cover the back-cover (to cover the price label) and the inside front-cover (to cover the brad back).  The ribbons are all double knotted on the spines, which should have put a dent in my ribbon stash – but I’m not completely convinced of that.  Naomi-Jon missed out on buying one today so we are going to make some more over the weekend for her.  I usually have a box of these at home decorated and ready for quick gifts, but they are all going on the bring-and-buy stall at the Mothers Day Morning Tea at St Peters Anglican Church (J.Hickey Avenue) tomorrow morning.

Almost Finished

By Alicia.R. | May 9, 2012

I have been working away over the last couple of days on my Oriental cards for this Saturdays Card Club at Scrapbook Fantasies.  I am determined to have them finished.  So just in case I forget to photograph them before giving them away, as I usually do, here is a picture of the work-in-progress that is currently my swap cards.

I have also been altering notebooks for the Mothers Day Stall at School tomorrow, only a couple left to go.  I have added a flower to the covers, lined the inside and back covers and tied ribbons on the spines.  I made some similar ones last year and the year before.

Creative Weekend

By Alicia.R. | May 7, 2012

I seem to have had a creative weekend, but all of it (and some stuff that can’t be shared yet) was done from 4pm to 10pm on Sunday.  I was definately on a creative roll.  Noah and I have been on our own since Friday afternoon, and we have had a great time doing stuff together.  He has however trashed his bedroom and the family room along the way.  I made a point this weekend of spending time with him, not just hanging out in my Studio creating.

I also put together 12 new hair clips for Naomi-Jon yesterday, and repaired one that had the clip broken on it.  This is one of the only things (other than a ceiling fan) that you will see me use hot glue on, and they are so fun to put together.  I have used flowers from Prima, Green Tara, Petaloo and Manor House Creations.  I know she will love them, and a couple of them are the beautiful royal blue that matches her school uniform too.

I also wanted to share a pic of the prize I won from Scrapbooking Memories.  I posted a little while ago that I won their challenge for for Vol14 No6 (here).  Well this is the American Crafts prize pack that I won.  I am only keeping two packs of thickers, three pieces of paper and a pack of the felt details stickers for myself.  I am actually giving the rest to my Mum and Candy (my right-hand-woman) as they are one of the biggest reasons why I get to create.  Their support is something I truly value and they are two of the most creative women I know.  I couldn’t run my business, spend time with my famly and find the time to be creative without both of these special women.

The Color Room – Palette #109

By Alicia.R. | May 7, 2012

I knew as soon as I saw this weeks palette from the Color Room that it would work beautifully with some of the polaroids I haven’t yet scrapped in my oldest sons baby album.  We don’t have a lot of pictures from his first year and most of them are well below standard, but I still want to record these memories and moments for him.

This is the palette:

Flowers & pin - Prima
Pearls & jewels – Prima
Ribbon & lace – Green Tara
Mist – Glimmermist
